Course Requirements for the Masters of Science in Systems Engineering
All students must satisfactorily complete 10 one-semester courses as follows:
Six (6) Required Systems Engineering Core Courses:
- 595.763 - Software Engineering Management
- 645.462 - Introduction to Systems Engineering
- 645.467 - Management of Systems Projects
- 645.767 - System Conceptual Design
- 645.768 - System Design and Integration
- 645.769 - System Test and Evaluation
Select One (1) of these four advanced courses:
- 645.742 - Management of Complex Systems
- 645.753 - Enterprise Systems Engineering
- 645.761 - Systems Architecting
- 645.771 - Systems of Systems Engineering
Option A - Complete one (1) master's project course and two (2) relevant elective courses
- 645.800 - Software Systems Engineering Master's Project and (1) Elective Course
One (1) Elective Course:
- Choose Electives from the technical management, applied biomedical engineering, applied physics, computer science, electrical engineering,
environmental engineering and science, and information systems engineering (formerly IS&T) programs.
- Individual courses (595 series) are described in the current catalog under the technical management program section.
- Systems engineering students may not take 595.460 - Introduction to Project Management or 595.464 - Project Planning and Control as elective courses.
Option B - Complete a two-semester Master's Thesis and one relevant elective course. (Recommended for students who plan to pursue doctoral studies)

The admission and course requirements for the Project Management Concentration are the same as those for the Systems Engineering concentration with
the exception that students wishing to elect a concentration in project management should select courses 595.461 Technical Group Management and 595.465
Communications in Technical Organizations as their two electives.
