Whiting School of Engineering Graduate Ceremony

When and Where

The Whiting School of Engineering Graduate Ceremony will be held on Homewood Field at the Homewood Campus in Baltimore on Wednesday, May 23. The ceremony will begin promptly at 7:00 pm and lasts approximately two hours. All graduates will be honored on stage. Tickets are not required.

Commencement Ceremony RSVP

Even if you do not plan to attend the ceremony, please go to your ISIS self service "Registration," "Program of Study Info," and "Apply to Graduate" to RSVP by Friday, April 6. Your response enables us to plan for adequate seating at the ceremonies and for presentation of the diplomas. More detailed information regarding robing and line-up will be e-mailed to you in early May.

PhD students we need to know if you are attending the ceremony so that we can:

  • ensure that your adviser will be present to hood you
  • ensure your name is on the script
  • order your hood.

Time of Arrival

All graduates receiving either a master's degree or certificate must arrive by 6:00 pm for check-in and line-up in the main lobby of the Ralph S. O'Connor Recreation Center. PhD students should arrive by 5:30 pm for check in at the Evans Multi-Purpose Room on the second floor of the Ralph S. O'Connor Recreation Center.

Graduates arriving late may be required to line-up at the end of the processional. Additional information about the Whiting School of Engineering's Graduate Ceremony will be mailed in the spring. Please ask your guests to go directly to the athletic field to be seated.

Caps and Gowns

Caps and gowns are required for all graduates. Caps and gowns should be ordered at Herff Jones Company. Deadline is April 13, 2012. Extras will be available at the Barnes & Noble-Johns Hopkins Homewood bookstore, 410.662.5850, on a first come, first served basis. A limited number of caps and gowns will be available for purchase at the Ralph S. O'Connor Recreation Center prior to the ceremony. No phone or fax orders will be accepted for caps and gowns. Announcements may be ordered online at herffjones.com.

Personal Items

Personal items, such as purses, cameras, etc. may not be carried across the stage. Since you may not be seated in the same seat when you return from the stage, please ask your guests to hold personal items for you until after the ceremony.

Photos

Commencement Photos, Inc. will take pictures as each graduate is being honored on stage. The photographer will contact graduates directly at some point after the event to offer various purchasing options. The telephone number for Commencement Photos, Inc. is 978.851.5924.

Commencement Webcasts

Once again this year, the Whiting School of Engineering's commencement ceremony, as well as the other divisions' commencement ceremonies, will be webcast live and archived for later viewing.

Diplomas

Diplomas will be available for spring graduates only. Summer and fall graduates should have received their diplomas by mail. If you are earning a PhD, you will receive your diploma at the general commencement ceremony on Thursday.

Reception

All graduates and their guests are cordially invited to attend a reception immediately following the ceremony in the Robert Scott Gym of the Ralph S. O'Connor Recreation Center. Light refreshments will be served. We hope to see you there!
