This course focuses on the design, development, and control of robotic systems using the Robot Operating System (ROS 2). Emphasis is placed on ROS 2 architecture, inter-node communication, simulation environments, and software engineering practices used in modern robotics applications. Topics include ROS 2 packages and nodes, topics, services, and actions, as well as the publisher–subscriber communication model, message interfaces, and inter-process communication. Students work extensively with simulation and visualization tools such as Gazebo and RViz to model, test, and analyze robot behavior. Through weekly programming assignments and a comprehensive final project, students gain advanced hands-on experience developing, controlling, and simulating robotic systems, while strengthening the problem-solving and system-integration skills expected of professional software and robotics engineers.
