Bonnie Kranzer Boland received her BA and MS from Florida State University; and her PhD from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, in geography, specializing in water resources management, water conservation, and environmental psychology. She currently is a water resources consultant in Baltimore. From 1987 to 2003, Kranzer was employed by the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD). In addition to her roles as a lead planner, policy coordinator, and program evaluation director, her most distinguished assignment was serving as the executive director of the Governor’s Commission for a Sustainable South Florida (1994 to 2001) which is the state advisory body for the Everglades restoration initiative. Kranzer also created and developed the socioeconomic and environmental justice program for the Everglades restoration program. Prior to her work at the SFWMD, Kranzer worked as a water supply planner for the Northwest Florida Water Management District, and as a senior governmental analyst in the Florida governor’s office. Her water resources career was preceded by a decade of archaeological work, culminating in her master’s thesis on the American Southwest. Kranzer is certified as a planner by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), and served as adjunct professor for the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at Florida Atlantic University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
