Chiman Kwan is a Senior Professional Staff at JHU/APL. He received his PhD in EE from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1993. Before joining JHU/APL in April 2022, he was the founder of two R&D companies, working on projects related to control, signal processing, image processing, fault diagnostics and prognostics, and remote sensing. Over the past 30 years, he has published 1 book, 4 book chapters, 15 patents, 80+ invention disclosures, and 400+ journal and conference papers and received several awards and recognitions from IEEE. Over the years, he served as the Principal Investigator (PI) of more than 120 projects with total funding exceeding 37 million dollars funded by various government and private agencies. He is a Fellow of SPIE (2021), a Fellow of OSA (2020), and a Fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (2022). His recent research areas include image fusion, target detection and tracking, control of unmanned vehicles, deep learning applicaitons, and remote sensing. Since 2021, he has taught both undergraduate and graduate courses in signal and image processing. He is an Associate Editor of IEEE Trans. Geoscience and Remote Sensing, IEEE Sensors Journal, and a few other journals.
