One of the central reasons you are pursuing a graduate degree at Johns Hopkins University is to take your career path to greater heights. The Engineering for Professionals program offers a Life Design Educator to help you accomplish this goal, whether you need support with resumes/cover letters, networking, job search strategy, interviewing, career pivots, etc.

Handshake Career Management System
Handshake is an online platform that provides Johns Hopkins students with opportunities and connections related to their career aspirations and interests. Employers also access Handshake to post positions, create events, and connect with students.
All JHEP students are provided a Handshake account that must be activated by students who wish to access it. To activate your account, go to handshake.jhu.edu, sign in with your JHED ID, and input your editable profile. Your account will remain active until you are no longer affiliated with JHU; alumni can reactivate their accounts with a revised email account for up to five years.
Go to Handshake to:
- Register for Career-focused Events and Career Fairs
- Sign up to attend employer info sessions and recruitment events
- Apply for available jobs and internships specifically for JHU students.

Signature Programs for Graduate EP Students
- Progressive Pathways: Career Focused Series for Mid-Level Professionals: A virtual program that is also offered as an asynchronous resource brings speakers and workshops on a variety of topics such as “Managing your Manager,” “Getting Unstuck, How Life Design Can Help,” “Career Pivot Tools & Networking Strategies,” and more! REGISTER FOR THIS EVENT IN HANDSHAKE, and an email with the link to the video playlist will automatically be sent to you.
- Hopkins Career Connections for Professionals: A spring virtual career fair for mid-level professionals
- Grad Career Accelerator: A cohort based experience for graduating students. This program is designed to guide you through three key steps that must be completed:
- Preparation: Asynchronous content and assignments on Canvas to help prepare job search materials and job search strategy
- Workshops: These interactive sessions will be led by Life Design Educators
- Mentor Match Up’s with Alumni: Engage with mentors and alumni to receive personalized feedback on your job readiness.
- Plus, gain access to exclusive job opportunities with employers through Jobs for Jays!
- Future Fest: Future Fest is much more than a traditional career fair or career services event. At Johns Hopkins University, we firmly believe that our entire community can benefit from lived experiences and human connection. Designing your life is an ongoing process, and this annual experience aims to encourage exploration, uncover opportunities, and bridge connections so that our community of students feel confident designing a fulfilling life.

- Data Driven Careers Playlist: Video recordings of the keynote address and four Q&A panels from the second annual Data-Driven Careers event series. Topics include Data Analytics/Science/Engineering, PM Roles, Quantitative & Financial Analytics, and Machine Learning & AI. - LinkedIn Learning: An online platform offering expert-led video courses on diverse topics like business, technology, and personal development. Users can learn independently, access courses on-demand, and earn certificates upon completion. It’s integrated with LinkedIn, allowing users to showcase completed courses on their profiles. (Use your JHED ID) to access for free.
- VMock: Get a one-minute resume review using artificial intelligence; upload a PDF resume and get a scored critique in minutes (use 10x per calendar year)—results may not always be perfect; refer any questions to Caitlin. You can also use this for assistance with cover letters and mock interviews.
- OneHop Mentoring: Mentoring builds purposeful connections between current students and selected alumni mentors. OneHop provides a community for alumni to network and offer guidance to fellow alumni and students.
- CaseCoach: Practice case interviews for consulting firms and others
- Interstride: An interactive career platform that enhances the career exploration and job search process for international students. With web and mobile applications, it’s a one-stop-shop for career resources, from navigating the visa process and searching for jobs, to building one’s professional network.
- GoingGlobal: For international students seeking jobs in the U.S. or in their home country, or for U.S. citizens seeking jobs and job search protocols in 190 countries, including the U.S. (access via Handshake/Resources)
- SMILE: The University Experiential Learning platform that connects current students to paid campus internships and employment opportunities across Johns Hopkins University.
