Ashraf Omran is a faculty member at Johns Hopkins University and at Maritime Academy. Omran is a member of AIAA and was the session chair of “Nonlinear Systems II” at the American Control Conference, 2011. Omran also was a distinguished speaker and keynote at the International Conference and Exhibition on Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering in 2019 and 2022. He has authored 24 U.S. and Eruo patents in the field of transmission control systems, has published more than 40 journal and conference papers in the field of aerospace, dynamics and control, and is writing a textbook, Kinematics and Dynamics of Machines using MATLAB, which will be published by Springer.
Omran received his PhD in aerospace engineering science from Old Dominion University, after which, he was a research scientist and collaborated with NASA and Lockheed Martin, on enhancing the NASA Langley Research Center’s Airspace and Traffic Operations Simulation and Aircraft Simulation for Traffic Operations Research software frameworks. He also worked with Metron Aviation and NASA, developing several up-gauging scenarios of the fleet-shifts as a trial of the JPDO to design a NextGen system that would accommodate future passenger demands, while mitigating challenging environmental aspects.
Omran worked in industry from 2011 to 2017 as a senior control engineer at Case New Holland Fiat Industry in Illinois, where he designed and analyzed control systems for transmission and vehicle dynamics. In 2018, he returned to academia at Texas A&M University to initiate the aerospace minor courses (Aerodynamics, Flight Dynamics, Aerospace Structure and Aircraft Design) at TAMUK. In 2019, he joined LUC as a faculty member in engineering science in addition to working at JHU since 2020. Currently, Omran is a faculty member in Maritime Academy. Omran has more than 20 years hands-on experience in dynamics and control.
