The Whiting School of Engineering’s Engineering for Professionals program has appointed Stephanie Caporaletti, Engr ’14 (MS), as chair of the Engineering Management program. She succeeds Tim Galpin, who led the program to its recognition as the nation’s top-ranked online engineering management program.

Stephanie brings more than 15 years of experience in technical leadership, program management, and engineering education to the role. She currently serves as assistant branch supervisor for the Physical and Life Systems Branch at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, where she leads a team of over 180 engineers and scientists in developing capabilities that prevent, detect, and enable response to human health threats.

A longtime member of the EP faculty, Stephanie has taught Strategic Communications in Technical Organizations and Planning and Managing Projects since 2015. She has also served as program manager of the Engineering Management program since 2022. In this role, she led initiatives to expand academic offerings, strengthen instructor development, and build strategic industry partnerships.

“Stephanie is absolutely the perfect choice as chair of the Education for Professionals’ Engineering Management program in the Whiting School of Engineering,” said outgoing Chair Tim Galpin. “The leadership and knowledge of engineering management that she brings to the role are unmatched. As the previous program manager, she already has been integrally involved in the program’s success and ranking as the No.1 online program in the country, and under her leadership, the program will only get better.”

Stephanie joined APL in 2009 and has held multiple leadership roles supporting the Federal Aviation Administration, the Department of Homeland Security, and the U.S. Navy. She holds a master’s degree in technical management from Johns Hopkins University and a master’s and bachelor’s in biological resources engineering from the University of Maryland. She is currently finishing a Doctor of Engineering in engineering management at George Washington University.

In her new role, Stephanie aims to continue advancing the Engineering Management program’s mission of empowering technical professionals to become strategic leaders. Her priorities include expanding course offerings, fostering industry partnerships, and strengthening student and alumni engagement to maintain EP’s reputation for academic excellence and real-world relevance.
