Mr. Ed Cormier
Ed has been working for the Department of Treasury since 2007, and is currently the Director, Unified Communications. Ed leads a large group of cross-functional geographically diverse staff on this effort. Prior to Ed's current position he ran two back-to-back large scale national programs. From 2004-2008 Ed was the project manager for the National Weather Service Telecommunications Gateway. Prior to that Ed was the project manager for the U.S Census Bureau's Decennial Census 2000 Local Census office project. That effort was a cradle to grave project that lead to the opening and automation of over 550 offices nationwide and o-conus in support of the 2000 decennial census one of the largest programs ever undertaken by the federal government outside of a war-time effort. Ed received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland, and his Master of Science degree from Johns Hopkins University, Whiting School of Engineering in Technical Management. Ed is an adjunct professor for Johns Hopkins University in both the Systems Engineering and Technical Management programs teaching several different disciplines. Ed believes that any project can successfully meet its objectives through the proper use of the planning process, honest assessments, understanding requirements, continuously evaluating quality, effective PM leadership and communication. But mostly, through empowerment of the project team members. What is the difference between a successful project, and what is considered a failed project? "it simply comes down to people".
