Each year, cybercriminals steal hundreds of billions of dollars’ worth of information from major companies and governments while terrorist organizations exploit cyber-networks to distribute propaganda and recruit, making it imperative to prepare the next generation of intelligence professionals to understand the ever-growing cyber-threat landscape. This course introduces students to Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) by exploring foundational concepts, frameworks, and methodologies used to provide decision-makers with critical insights into evolving security challenges. Students will examine the scope of threat intelligence, maturity models, lifecycles, and standards, while also engaging with data collection strategies, intelligence sources, and platforms that enable sharing, collaboration, and analysis. Core topics include indicators of compromise, adversary behaviors, and the ways observables inform strategic and operational decisions. Emphasizing both public and private sector applications, the course highlights how governments and companies alike rely on CTI to defend against advanced persistent threat groups, cybercriminals, and terrorist organizations. Readings cover intelligence, analysis, cyber operations, and the diverse methods malicious actors employ to conduct their attacks, equipping students with the knowledge to better navigate and mitigate today’s complex cyber threat environment.
