The engineering education program launched this fall with the online pilot course, Systems Conceptual Design, which is taught by EP instructors with all coursework materials translated into Japanese by innovative DESIGN. The students in the pilot course are Japanese executives from the automobile industry who are interested in learning formalized systems engineering in order to address complex challenges related to the development of autonomous vehicles. These executives sought to partner with a world leader in systems engineering, which is why they approached Johns Hopkins.
“This is an opportunity to share JHU’s leading-edge coursework with an industry that can be transformed through the application of systems engineering principles”, says Ronald Luman, the Systems Engineering program chair. Already, JHU and innovative DESIGN are looking into additional courses that JHU can provide to Japanese engineers in the future.
