This part-time program offers a variety of online certification courses for computer engineers and electrical engineers. No matter your interest, you can customize your education to your goals. Applications for the graduate electrical and computer engineering certificate are accepted on a rolling basis and do not have a deadline. Once accepted, your acceptance is valid for one year. Please check the academic calendar for term start dates.
Admission Requirements
- You must meet the general admission requirements that pertain to all graduate certificate candidates.
- If you decide to pursue a full master’s degree, all courses will apply to the master’s degree provided they meet program requirements and fall within a five-year time limit. The student must declare their intention prior to completing the certificate.
- If you are an international student, you may have additional admission requirements.
ECE Certificate Requirements
- Choose any four courses offered from the program which must be completed within five years.
- At least three of the four courses must be from the Electrical and Computer Engineering (525.xxx) program or the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (520.xxx) in the full-time program.
- One course may be taken outside of Electrical and Computer Engineering with advisor approval.
- Only one C-range grade (C+, C, or C−) can count toward the graduate certificate.
ECE Graduate Certificate Requirement FAQs
Many students find themselves considering the graduate certificate program and the full master’s program. Which is best depends on your goals. If your goal is to fully delve into electrical and computer engineering to learn more about the field at large, the master’s program may be best. If your goal is to narrow your focus on a select topic, the graduate program will be a better fit. Courses from the graduate certificate can also be used toward the master’s degree.
In addition to the graduate certificate program, Johns Hopkins Engineering for Professionals also offers a post-master’s certificate in electrical and computer engineering. This program is designed for students who already have a master’s in a related field.
As a part-time program, the standard recommendation is to enroll in one course initially to get used to the rigor. And after you demonstrate mastery of balancing the coursework with your other demands, discuss expanding your course load with your advisor.
