Space Systems Master’s Requirements

Admission Requirements

• You must meet the general admission requirements that pertain to all master’s degree candidates.
• Your prior education must include an undergraduate or graduate degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or equivalent) from a regionally accredited college or university.
• Your prior education must show competency in (1) calculus, (2) physics, and (3) computer programming, which must be demonstrated through undergraduate or graduate coursework or equivalent work experience.
• If your prior education does not include the prerequisites listed above (or work experience does not demonstrate equivalent competency), you may enroll under provisional status, followed by full admission once you have completed the missing prerequisites. Missing prerequisites may be completed with Johns Hopkins Engineering (all prerequisites with the exception of Physics I and II are available) or at another regionally accredited institution. Courses applicable to fill these prerequisites should specifically relate to math, science, and engineering majors. A grade of B– or better must have been earned in each of the prerequisite courses.
• When reviewing an application, your academic and professional background will be considered.
• As part of the admission process, the chair or the program coordinators may interview you to better evaluate your application.

Degree Requirements

• A total of ten courses (at least three at the 700-level) must be completed within five years.
• The curriculum consists of five core courses and five others chosen by you in consultation with your advisor.
• Only one C-range grade (C+, C, or C−) can count toward the master’s degree.
• All courses in the Space Systems Engineering program may be completed remotely (online or via virtual-live), except for the program capstone (675.710), which includes a requirement that students attend a specified residency weekend in the Baltimore area to complete the laboratory component.
