Through lectures, assignments, and a practicum project, this course follows the fundamental concepts of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering through a professionally applicable design process. Topics include vessel geometry, structural and hydrostatic analyses, dynamic stability, propulsion and drag. In the application of these principles, students will employ the systems architecture principles of trade study and adherence to requirements. This course is meant to supplement the education of engineers interested in maritime projects, or pursuing further study in Naval Architecture. Working knowledge of CAD/FEA design tools and MATLAB is strongly recommended.
